Before reading this comment, read the article by Karen Seidman at the Montreal Gazette. In my opinion, neither students, universities nor the government should pay the entire bill alone. We all have a share to pay. Government should inject more funds, not cut as it just did. Students should accept indexing tuition fees and making fees variable across programs (a future physician can and should pay more than a future historian) and finally universities need to streamline administration and become more efficient. With more money in the system, more student fellowships can be created to decrease the cost for students on the basis of necessity. Even free or remunerated for some based on a formula that combines in some yet to be determined manner the financial situation and academic potential of the student.
